The news of the terrible bushfires that have ravaged large parts of Australia over the past months has played out on the global stage. The destruction and impact on communities, wildlife and bushland is hard for many to fathom. It’s the type of disaster that draws on the emotions of many and creates a flood of offers to help in any way possible.
One of these initiatives is the ‘Firefighter Family Day on the Water’ events being organised by Above & Beyond Boating, in conjunction with clubs and marinas across the country.
It was created by the AABB team to provide a way for the boating community to give back to the men and women who have been battling the severe bushfires across our country.
Firefighters and their family can register to attend one of the events and enjoy a day out on the water with one of the volunteer skippers who are lending their boats for the experience.
Yacht clubs and marinas that are interested to participate can register as a HUB to help connect local yachts and families and coordinate the on-the-day activities. Yacht owners and people interested to support these events can register their vessel or as a volunteer.
The day will start and finish at the designated HUB location. After a welcome upon arrival, families will board the vessels at around 10am where they will meet their skipper and hosts. The boats will then head out to a protected anchorage, and maybe some cruising, for some fun and relaxing family time on the water.
This event is all about the firefighters and their families; while these fires have been raging on these dedicated individual have given up countless hours of their personal and family time in order to keep their communities and country safe. This event is about giving something back to them.
